A long time ago I abandoned Game Maker: Studio and its second iteration. I was reaching the limits of its abilities to handle external data. This year and part-way through last, I discovered and tried out Godot. If this comes to a more complete and playable state, I'll put a prototype here. In addition, I have been working on something longer-term and larger in scope and ambitions. Same conditions apply, but it'll take time. In summary, a role-playing game set in the world. Probably the biggest thing I've ever taken a bite out of, but I'll do it in manageable pieces with diversions like the above project to avoid the burnout.
In the ten months since posting this, I have bounced between a couple of different projects as I have taken the time to sit down and learn how Godot works after my initial RPG experiment. 1) Motorcycle Shoot 'Em Up Game A simple top-down shoot 'em up. A very simple type of game to make. Learned about deltas and correct timing, spawning objects, making a good GUI. 2) Platform Game. I've been making little platform games for myself for a long time, tinkering and iterating to build the best feeling game I could. This time around in Godot was no different, and I am happy to say this was one of the best ones I've made. I will definitely swing back around and build on this. 3) Roleplaying Game Mk. 2 Now with a more complete understanding of Godot's workings and how to get the most out of it, I am circling around back to the RPG, and forging ahead with something bigger. I decided to start with the world map first. If it looks familiar - it is! It's Barrier Island, Sargasso.
